The ideal candidates should:
- Initially be able to work in concert with the existing K-8 teachers and school officials until we have enough experience and confidence to start our own private K-8 school.
- Know how to improve the curriculum, facilities, teaching materials, etc. to "world-class" levels.
- Be able to speak Spanish fluently at the level of a native Costa Rican.
- Be able to teach English as a strong second language.
- Passionately desire to live in a small community in a pristine, non-toxic, rural setting, with pure air, food and water, in a temperate climate.
- Be sincerely interested in conservation and ecology—and able to impart these values to the students.
- Understand this is not a "career path", but rather a unique opportunity for the right couple.
- Understand the entire Las Alturas preserve is a private non-commercial, non-profit-making endeavor, done for conservation purposes, and thus the budget for this position is not large, and that only a modest stipend can be offered.
