Teach in a Costa Rican Paradise We are seeking a couple, probably retired, with extensive elementary-level and/or high school-level teaching experience to teach and oversee our K-8 (growing to K-12) school. The village of Las Alturas has around 100 permanent residents, including over 40 school age children. Our goal is to find a couple, both of whom are dedicated to and skilled in teaching, who are interested in living in a small community located in a pristine natural environment, and are excited about teaching our children. The couple will be provided room and board, and will live beside the beautiful Coton River in a small rustic house with hot and cold running water and a soft bed. Food will come almost entirely from Las Alturas's own private organic gardens. We plan to initially start by augmenting the existing school, eventually evolving into a full-time private K-12 school at which our children receive a world class-education. The near-term goal is to provide the students with a well-grounded education in the standard material required of all Costa Ricans, but to teach English and possibly other languages, history (national and world), mathematics, the hard sciences, and literature (Spanish and English). We want to instill in our children a pride of their own heritage (a large fraction of whom are ethnically Indian) and to have them truly understand the precious natural environment in which they live. |
