Commercial Activities
All of the commercial activities at Las Alturas were started within the last 50 years by the previous owner. Prior to that time the entire parcel was virgin rain forest.

The village has been constructed within the last 30 years. Aside from a few buildings renovated by the present owners, almost all of the buildings were built using unsophisticated construction techniques, from lumber milled on site. The housing consists generally of one or two rooms, unpainted, tin roofed buildings.

Electricity is provided by a diesel generator operated a few hours each evening. Sewage facilities consist of leach fields and pit toilets. No sewage is otherwise treated. Despite this, the population is apparently clean, healthy and thriving.

Although the water is untreated (it was previously picked directly off a creek) it now comes from an underground spring and proven totally healthy and of great taste.
